Word ‘Enzyme’ given by – Kuhne.
Buchner found first enzyme ‘Zymase’ in yeast cell.
  Sumner crystallized ‘Urease’ enzyme.
Northrop & Sumner told about enzyme’s protein nature.
T. Cech & Altman discovered enzyme’s of non-protein nature.

Definition –
Enzymes are bio-catalysts made of protein, which increases rate of bio-chemical reactions by decreasing activation energy.
Specific features of enzymes –
All enzymes are protein, but all proteins are not enzymes. Exception – Ribozymes & Ribonuclease (these are enzymes of RNA nature)
All enzymes are globular proteins of tertiary configuration. Exception – Isoenzymes have quadrant configuration.
It decreases the activation energy of reactant.
Enzymes are polymer of amino acids, which have been synthesized by ribosome.
It has high molecular weight.
It is very sensible for pH and most enzymes work on neutral pH. Exception – Hydrolases (pH = 5), Pepsin (pH = 1-2), Rubisco, PEPcase, Trypsin (pH = 8.5)
Optimum temperature for enzymes is 20°C - 38°C.
Enzymes are specific for their reactant.

Co-enzyme – such organic molecules, which bonds loose with apoenzyme.
e.g. – NAD, FAD, ATP, ADP, Vitamin etc.
Co-factor – such inorganic or metallic molecules, which bonds loose with apoenzyme.
e.g. – Mg+2, Fe+2, Zn+2, Mo+2
Prosthetic group – such organic or inorganic molecules, which  bonds rigid with apoenzyme.
e.g. – Haem (Peroxidase and catalase )

पाचन की कार्यिकी (Physiology of Digestion)

1. मुखगुहा में पाचन (Digestion in mouth) - पाचन की प्रक्रिया यांत्रिक एवं रासायनिक विधियों द्वारा सम्पन्न होती हैं। मुखगुहा के मुख्यतः दो कार्य होते हैं- (अ) भोजन को चबाना व (ब) निगलने की क्रिया।

ओर्निथिन चक्र (Ornithine cycle)

यकृत में अमोनिया से यूरिया बनाने की क्रिया भी होती हैं। यह एक जटिल रासायनिक प्रतिक्रिया है , जिसे ऑर्निथिन चक्र (Ornithine cycle) कहते हैं। इसी का नाम क्रेब्स-हैन्सेलेट (Krebs-Henslet cycle) चक्र भी हैं। यूरिया बनने की संपूर्ण प्रक्रिया एक चक्रीय प्रक्रिया हैं तथा इसमें अमोनिया , कार्बनडाइऑक्साइड एवं अमीनो अम्ल का समूह भाग लेते हैं। इसलिए ही इसे ‘ ऑर्निथीन-ऑर्जिनीन चक्र ’ (Ornithine-Arginine cycle) भी कहते हैं। यह निम्न पदों में पूरा होता हैं -   Ornithine cycle
